Thomas Kinkade (19 January 1958 - April 6, 2012.) was an American painter who painted popular scenes of idyllic, realistic, and bucolic subjects. His work was widely promoted through The Thomas Kinkade Company as printed reproductions and other licensed products. He called himself "Thomas Kinkade Painter of Light", a term he secured through trademark, but which was originally attributed to J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851). Turner (1775-1851).
Artistic themes and style
Thomas Kinkade's paintings have glowing highlights and rich pastel colors. His paintings are based on American scene painting values and depict idyllic, picturesque settings like gardens, streams, stone cottages or lighthouses. Many of his street scenes and snow scenes are inspired by his hometown of Placerville, where his works are everywhere. He also portrays various Christian themes, including the Christian cross as well as churches.
